CORVERA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
The first flight has landed at Corvera International Airport in order to test out the navigation and operating systems at the facility.
The test was overseen by AENA, who monitored the radio, radar and navigation systems for aircraft when taking off and landing at the airport from a number of different heights and headings. Such calibration needs to be undertaken in order to prove that the airport complies with the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The results of the test will also be included in a report to help re-define the airspace by a report be submitted to the Ministries of Development and Defence.
Murcia's Minister of Public Works, Antonio Sevilla, has said how the required corridor of airspace has been approved by the Military, who will continue their operations from the nearby San Javier airport.
AENA will also submit their findings to the various airlines who have expressed an interest in flying into Corvera.
Sevilla appeared at a press conference yesterday along with Jose Luis Gomez Sierra from Aeromur, and the Director General of Transport Antonio Sanchez- Solis, where they explained the importance of today's test flights in establishing the future of the airport.
The test flights were originally scheduled to take plave in February, but had to be postponed due to delays in the negotiation process with AENA, caused by the change of central government administration at the end of last year.

The ‘Condado de Alhama golf resort’ is seeing a flurry of interest after Paramount pictures announced plans to open a theme park in the Murcia region.
Paramount Pictures have chosen the region of Murcia for the construction of the biggest theme park in Spain, which aims to compete directly with Disneyland in Paris.
The project will have the added value of some cinematographic studios which will be the centre of all Paramount’s productions in Europe, according to the Murcian Councillor for Culture, Pedro Alberto Cruz.
Cruz has just got back from a trip to Dubai with a letter from the executive president of Paramount, Michael Bartok, who wants to start the ball rolling just as soon as it has been proven to be economically viable.
Cruz has said that the region of Murcia will become the “Leisure Centre of Spain, with a 2.5km² complex with 15,000 beds in hotels, creating 20,000 jobs, and attracting 3 million tourists to Spain. The amount of money to be invested will be decided next month, and private investors will be offered the possibility of putting their capital into the project.
The project is estimated to be completed within 2 years. It comes like a breath of fresh air for Spanish property agents, Spanish real estate companies, and other local businesses in the present financial climate.

TAKING THE MICKEY? WALT DISNEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN A ‘MOJAQUERO’, ACCORDING TO SOME

A MOJACAR councillor has made a formal proposal to the council to rename a local square after the most famous cartoon animator in the world, it has emerged.
According to local folklore Walt Disney, the creator of Donald Duck, Pluto and Mickey Mouse, was born in the hilltop village, although the claims have never been officially proven.
Other names, including ‘Fronton’ or ‘del Ayuntamiento’ are also in contention for the new name of ‘Walt Disney Square’ as old stories abound over the American legend being of Spanish origin – the offspring of an illicit affair between a local doctor and an unmarried woman.
Councillor for tourism Angel Medina, speaking to this reporter, explained that the rumours circulating over Mojacar being Walt’s birthplace have never gone away. He said: “Rumour has it that Walt Disney was whisked away to the States due to the scandal that broke, where he was adopted by an American family. This still needs to be proven categorically, but it has also not been disproved.” Source Costa Almeria news.

MOJACAR GETS ITS OWN SONG
Spectrum 92.6FM has helped create a song especially for Mojacar to be used as a promotional tool for tourism in the area. Written by friend of Spectum FM Stevie Cash who also penned 'My Dear Spain' which was prompted on Spectrum earlier this summer and sung by Britain's Got Talent contestant Sheena McHugh.
The song 'Mojacar' is sung to the Alicia Keys version of 'Empire State of Mind' '.
A superb video of the area to go along with the song has been produced by Steve Homer of The Image Suite and really expresses the beauty of Mojacar.

LOS GALLARDOS FOOTBALL

Coles’s of Andalucia the local estate agent based in Los Gallardos has recently agreed a sponsorship deal with Los Gallardos townhall. The company are now kit suppliers and shirt sponsors for the three children’s teams 5-7 years, 8-10 years and 10-12 years old in the Almeria league.
Simon Cole the company owner approached the townhall with the offer as the existing kits were old and looking a little tired. ‘both of my boys play for the village in their respective age groups. I watch them play home and away on Saturdays and when you see the other teams they play in their new kits like Mojacar, Adra, El Ejido etc I felt our village needed the same. I used to run a 5 a side team in the UK and I arranged kits then so I had a good contact to use back in Derby.
The children and the townhall are very happy with the news kits and will be playing with pride away this Saturday against Roquetas del Mar. It is a little advertising for the company but it was more about giving something back to this village and community that has been so kind to us as a family here in Los Gallardos.
